INTRODUCTION OF COMAP BI-FUEL EQUIPMENT

ComAp, the leader in bi-fuel conversions for medium and high speed engines, has so far installed
in Indonesia only, some 48 bi-fuel kits with output range 400KW until 5.6MW.
After commissioning medium speed engines will run with 75% of gas and 25% of diesel, and
high speed engines will be on 60% gas and 40% diesel.
For high speed engines the gas will enter the engine between air filter and turbocharger and the
air/ gas mixture will go to each cylinder.
On medium speed engines due to the long overlapping of opened inlet and exhaust valves, it is
necessary to install on each cylinder one electronic gas valve which will allow and control the gas
only to enter the cylinder when the exhaust valves are closed. ComAp installed sensors on
flywheel and camshaft that will set the timing of the gas valve to be opened only on the suction
stroke.
For the safety operation ComAp has installed on each cylinder an exhaust temperature sensor and
a knocking detector.
When exhaust temperatures reach the alarm and stop parameters the gas will automatically stop
and engine will run on diesel only.
The knocking detectors will detect any knockings on all cylinders and will give the order to the
electronic gas valve to reduce the gas amount until knocking disappears.
The system is functioning in a way that if gas is stopped or not available the engine automatically
switches over to diesel and after resetting the engine will go back to bi-fuel without interruption.
To install the bi-fuel equipment no modification on the engine is necessary except if the engine
has a mechanical governor to be replaced with an electronic governor.
After commissioning ComAp/ PSI will give a guaranty of 4000 hours or one year whatever comes
first to the customer.
